You may have heard of something called a “thesis.” It’s what seniors commonly refer to as their final paper before graduation. That type of thesis is a long, well-written paper that takes years to piece together.A good thesis statement will direct the structure of your essay and will allow your reader to understand the ideas you will discuss within your paper.Your thesis should be stated somewhere in the opening paragraphs of your paper, most often as the last sentence of the introduction.Can you imagine having only five paragraphs in a six-page paper?For a longer essay, you need a thesis statement that is more versatile.If you are writing a text that does not fall under these three categories (e.g., a narrative), a thesis statement somewhere in the first paragraph could still be helpful to your reader.
