Beginning then, I decided to see if there were really any similarities between rap and metal.
Instrumental The first subject I will touch on is the music itself.
In the early 1980s, Afrika Bambaataa and Soulsonic Force released an electro-funk track called “Planet Rock”, which used electronic sounds and synthesizers. The music movement spread to minority populations through the US, and with the advent of music videos, the culture spread to Europe and beyond.
Hip-hop is composed of four main elements: MCing, DJing, grafitti and breakdancing.
Rap music is the combination of rhyming and poetry to a beat.
It is part of the Hip-Hop genre, which involves lyrics over fast-paced music. The instrumentals on most metal songs are played by the songwriters in addition to the lyrics, so they must come up with original material to perform.Heavy metal is an instrumentally-oriented style of music, as opposed to hip hop, which is a lyrically oriented one.The movement spread through the borough, taking inspiration from the rapping used by folk poets in West Africa.Hop hop culture, including graffiti and rapping, was adopted by street gangs in the Bronx as a new form of competition and one-upmanship.Musicians like Paul Gilbert, Alexi Laiho, Yngwie Malmsteen, Kerry King, and hundreds more, put immense energy into becoming good enough to play what they do. The beat remains the same throughout the entire song, at the same pace, with the same sequence of beats each time.On the other hand, rappers simply need to know how to talk fast and make use of rhyming. Sometimes, to mix it up, a DJ will scratch the record a bit.Hip-hop winners of the 2012 Grammys included Kanye West, Jay-Z, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Lupe Fiasco, Bon Iver and Nicki Minaj, among others. Popular hip-hop groups include Sugarhill Gang, Fab 5 Freddy, Kurtis Blow and Watch the Throne. A major difference between rap/hip hop and heavy metal is the fact that metal (at least, real heavy metal) requires a high degree of musical proficiency, whereas rap instrumentals are generated from a computer.Even bands that use drum machines need to be proficient guitar players.
