Each chapter is a part of the larger organization and must operate within the framework of Bylaws established by the Association.The Alamo has been managed by The Daughters of the Republic of Texas since 1905.
One of the DRT’s key purposes is “to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved and maintained the independence of Texas” and to encourage historical research into the earliest records of Texas, especially those relating to the Revolution of 1835 and the events which followed.
Among the topics discussed at the workshop were the 2012 topics for the annual Texas History Essay Contest for students in the fourth and seventh grades. The workshop was held at the Howard Payne University Mabee Center.

The chapter registrar proposes people for membership at chapter meetings, and the chapter members vote on the proposed members.

Brown Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas listened to the winners of the Texas History Essay Contest as they read their essays at the March 23 chapter meeting.Contest winners were seventh-graders Emma Bryant from Grace Academy in Kerrville, first place; Audrey Jellett from Hal Peterson Middle School, second place; and Cadyn Laura Feller from Comfort Middle School, third place.The seventh-graders’ subject was “The Legend of Jim Bowie,” a renowned Texas hero who died defending The Alamo from Santa Anna’s forces.First- place winners in each grade receive a 0 cash prize, while second- and third-place winners receive and , respectively. Brown Chapter of the DRT meets September through May on the fourth Monday at 10 a.m.Lastly, chapter-only membership is for women who don’t fulfill the requirements for full membership, but love Texas and have a desire to join the organization in preserving Texas history and monuments.These women are known as "Associate Members." They can only attend chapter meetings but not state meetings.The DRT aspires to honor the memory of the men and women who helped Texas achieve independence from Mexico in 1836, and encourages research into the history of Texas.The organization helps maintain the Alamo mission in San Antonio, site of the famous battle fought in 1836, among other historical sites in Texas.The ancestor in question must be a great-grandparent; uncles and cousins, for example, would not qualify to become a member of the DRT. Chapter membership is for women who want to belong to one of the local DRT chapters.These women have the privilege of attending both state and chapter meetings and holding office at both levels.
